I think many of us can agree that although this is the most wonderful time of the year, it’s also the most stressful. Just when we thought getting in our last minute Christmas gift shopping and wrapping was possibly the most procrastination we would have to face — all the holiday parties and get-togethers come sweeping in. Finding the right outfit for each upcoming event is a challenge on its own, so finding the right makeup to go with it should be, at least, the easy part.

No matter how much I try to have my holiday stresses under control, there’s always something new that arises. Christmas Eve is the busiest time in my family, so going out to do last minute errands and cooking before guests arrive takes up most of the day. By the time everything is prepped for guests to show up, I’ll usually have 2 hours to hop in the shower, get dressed, style my hair, and apply makeup. Reality: In a girl’s world this is not enough time.

When we’re feeling rushed we can bet our makeup is what will make or break the look. In fact, it will always be the telltale sign of how rushed we were upon application. After many years of trial and error I’ve learned that although the “less is more” rule applies, you’re still able to add in a bit of effortless glitz into your holiday makeup looks in one step (and for random parties, too). Take note.

Ditch the black liquid liner this holiday and opt for a playful glitter liner in a festive burgundy red. Let the lips do all the talking.

HOW: Apply a medium matte brown all over the lids, then blend in a medium to dark matte into the crease using a blending brush. Using a damp angled liner brush, apply your favourite glitter pigment/eyeshadow along your lash line and wing it out. After mascara and some (or lots of) highlighter on the high points of your face, put on your go-too red and top it off with a high-shine lipgloss at the center of the lips if you want to, but we preferred to keep a matte lip for this look.

As the saying goes, “If you’re born with it, flaunt it”. It’s all about making a statement with your eyes alone.

HOW: Taking a glittery champagne taupe pigment, apply it all over the eyelid and crease using your finger for easier blending. For the lower liner you can use the tip of your pinkie or an flat eyeshadow brush for more precision. Add an extra pop of glitter by taking a gold pigment and applying it over the inner duct corners of eyes. Some liquid blush and highlight will brighten up the complexion, along with a natural satin rose lip shade. A quick and easy 5 minutes look that will not require touching up.
