The most vivid memories I have from my childhood are almost all during summer. It’s not difficult to remember why, when you’re a kid with two months of summer holidays and no school it’s quite easy to end up playing the hopscotch* ’til late evening with your neighbors, rolling on the hill of some park with your hair half-covered in dry grass, and waiting for dinner time while you eat an ice-cream without your mom’s permission (what she didn’t understand was that, after all that exercise you did, what harm could a popsicle do before dinner?).
Every summer is different, and over the years I’m even more certain of it. The places you visited, the people you met and, yes, the clothes that accompanied you during those days of full enjoyment and full relaxation. The kind of clothes you’ll see in your photos in 10 years and will think: Did I really went outside looking like this?, as if it were one bad ex-boyfriend memory.
So, as a semi-farewell to summer and my summer holidays, I decided to collect a few of the garments that marked the season like gingham and little black dresses, objects and scents that will define the memories of my summer. If you had to do your own selection, which object would lead your list?
